Why we can't just tell you yes or no
The Priority Stormwater Retrofit Areas are drawn by drainage catchment, not by neighbourhood or postal code. Water does not respect postal boundaries, so two houses on the same street — sometimes two halves of the same street — can fall differently. Any tool that promises a definitive answer from a postal code alone is guessing.
So treat this as a sorting exercise: it tells you the rebate ceiling for your project type and which qualifying route is open to you, so you know whether it is worth confirming with the City.
The two rules that disqualify people
It is not retroactive. Your application has to be submitted and approved before construction starts. Work already done, or invoices predating the program approval date, are not eligible. Every year somebody builds first and asks second.
It is first-come, first-served. Rebates are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis for eligible households, so the funding for a given year can run out. Applying early in the season matters.
What to do with a promising result
- Confirm the address with the City on the Rain Ready Ottawa pages, and read the applicant guide for how rebates are calculated.
- Get the work designed and quoted, so your application describes a real project with real numbers.
- Apply and wait for approval before anybody starts digging.
