Casselman and Limoges are close together and frequently lumped in with each other, but they are two different municipalities: Casselman is its own village, and Limoges is in The Nation Municipality. Two sets of rules, two offices.
This is not the City of Ottawa. Ottawa's Access By-law (No. 2026-139) and Zoning By-law (No. 2026-50) do not apply here, so the Ottawa driveway-width and access-permit rules described elsewhere on this site are not your rules.
Your municipality has its own entrance permit and driveway requirements, and if your frontage is on a county road or a provincial highway rather than a local street, the permit comes from that road authority instead. We'll confirm which applies to your address before you spend anything — but check with your own municipal office too. Anyone who quotes you Ottawa's by-law numbers out here has not done their homework.
What we can tell you
What does not change across municipal boundaries is the ground and the weather. The build standards below are the same whether you are in Casselman & Limoges or in Ottawa, and they are what actually determines whether a driveway is still flat in ten years.
Building for this ground
- Limoges has grown very fast, and much of its housing is new enough that the original driveway is the builder's minimum. Widening is the most common job we're asked about there.
- New-build settlement. On a recently developed lot, the fill around the house may not have finished settling. Paving over unsettled fill produces a driveway that dips in the wrong place. Sometimes the right advice is to wait a season, and we will give it.
- Clay and frost, handled as everywhere else in the region: geotextile over the subgrade, real base depth, compaction in lifts.
- Highway 417 corridor. Some frontages near the interchange are on roads under a different authority. Worth confirming before you apply anywhere.
What we do here
Installation runs roughly April to mid-November. Heavy clay in the townships holds spring water longer than city lots, so an April start is often optimistic even when the calendar says otherwise. Base and paver work can run into early November; polymeric sand stops curing reliably in cold damp weather. Expect 6–10 weeks from signed quote to crew, and note that August onward is usually booked by July.
